Walking on the streets of London and other major towns and cities this week has been like navigating a war zone for UK pedestrians. It sickens me to see the constant stream of bad news being delivered to our TV’s, but even more so how the Conservative government, David Cameron and the in effective, rudderless policing that is now freighted with liberalism and has thus become a powerless force.
The policies deployed by riot police has been totally ineffective! A strategy that is both weak, embarrassing and makes the UK look like a bunch of clowns to other international countries – with every single looter and rioter laughing in the midst! Public safety is paramount! Of course police safety is just as important, but too many restrictions is just like letting them shoot themselves in the foot! The army is also an option I would have deployed, as support, not for fire power or the use of tanks, just deterrence on the streets and more numbers.

Look at the strategy for the riots in manchester. The police are stood there watching the violence and destruction in front of their own eyes, with few arrests and any attempt at preventing youths from smashing windows, and scarpering off with electronic goods and setting fires to cars. A more aggressive response is required that is commensurate with the situation. Im not talking about using tear gas and flame throwers, but a more robust approach is evidently required. I have a few solutions that they my want to take on board.
Here’s my 5 star strategy to combat the scum on the British streets:-
* For small groups of youths (less than 15-20), why not have a group of police in plain clothes (with vest armour, lightweight helmuts and lighter weight shoes) behind the riot shields, to quickly move in and pick off rioters and apprehend them. A more severe strategy of kettling was used against the students, but this is far worse and could be effective if deployed correctly.
* Why not use fluorescent tagging methods to spray the looters. This would allow them to track and pinpoint them later on when they have ran off and blended into the crowds.
* Use water cannons. The announcement today of having cannons on 24 hour standby is inadequate and too little too late. Are they scared of the huge Thames water bill they’ll have to pay?
* Use paint ball guns to mark the rioters so they can easily be identified.
* And last but not least, a net capturing mechanism/catapult that can be fired on protesters / rioters and tangles them up in a mess (or maybe I’ve been reading too many spider man comics)
There are of course wider issues here on how to prevent this from happening on the first place. There is no single reason for the riots – there are a multitude of explanations and theories, that will take a huge effort and multi-layered apprach to put right. Yes these people need better community support, life goals and some discipline to name a few.
